Apple released three new iPhone ads featuring customers talking about how much they like their iPhone. While I realize this is just the first three ads and most likely more will come, the first thought in my head was Where are the women in the ads?
I remember back when the iPhone was released, everyone was wondering why there were so few women in the lines. Although at the same time there were predictions that women were not waiting in lines, but would still catch up to men with the iphone. Early on, there were reports that women only made up about a fourth of the iPhone consumers. But by September, it was nearly half female.
So if iPhone owners are split almost even, why are only men featured in the ads?
When someone made this observation in the MacRumors Forum the responses were not encouraging. One response was;
why is everyone all pissy about there not being women? you get all your own razors, clubs, cancer awareness magnets... isn't it time the men got their 15 minutes of attention?
while another responded with sexism;
Silly rabbit, iPhones are for men.
One person reduced every women down to the faults of one girl. Saying;
Lindsay was busy intoxicating herself.
This same question was asked back when the "I'm a mac" commercials were released, and later on Apple won many points back by featuring a female mac genius.
Hopefully they will remedy this gender gap soon.
